Bill Harvey is a 30-plus year veteran of public radio in Baltimore. He started announcing on January 1, 1979, spinning music as diverse as jazz, rock, and country and western at WAVR closed circuit channel 4 to troops in the Armed Forces. In the summer of 1981 he was invited to join the Saturday-night line up at WEAA by Isisara Pratabula-Bey after she heard him provide music at a friend's going away party. While at WEAA, he also volunteered at WJHU, Johns Hopkins Universtity where he developed the Magicbird concept and also hosted a The Tropical Storm reggae show until 1986.In 1988, Harvey moved to Thursday night slot at WEAA where the Magicbird show has remained for over 20 years. Bill received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech Communication in 1979 from Morgan State University. In 1995, he authored a chap book of poetry entivtled 21 Pieces. Harvey has provided lighting and sound effects for several community theatre projects for Morgan and for the City of Baltimore. He has received special A/V communation awards from the United Way of Central Maryland and the U.S. Treasury Department. Harvey's tenure at WEAA is surpassed only by that of the late Mary Carter-Smith.
