Elder Duane Johnson, the oldest child of Bishop Carroll and Pastor Muriel Johnson of the Maximum Life Christian Church in Woodlawn, Maryland, was born and raised in Baltimore. He is a fourth generation preacher and has always had a passion for righteousness and the Kingdom of God.
Elder Johnson is a graduate of Woodlawn High School and Morgan State University. While attending Morgan State University, he began his career in radio on WEAA 88.9FM. His love and “ear for good gospel music” has enabled him to have a successful career in radio that spans for over 20 years. Currently, Elder Johnson serves as the WEAA Gospel Grace program director and on-air host every Sunday from 5am -8am. Creating and producing gospel music programs, and serving as on-air personality at both WEAA and WERQ 92QJams, Elder Johnson has been blessed to be in the company of nationally known recording artists and preachers such as Yolanda Adams, Kirk Franklin, Mary Mary, Bishop T.D.Jakes, and many, many others. Additionally, Elder Johnson’s work in radio afforded him the opportunity to create and host “Speak To My Heart”, a number-one rated radio talk show, with his wife, Evangelist Cynthia Johnson, and Dr. Jamal Bryant serving as co-hosts.
Elder Johnson’s genuine love for the people of God extends beyond his radio ministry. When he isn’t heard ministering on the radio at WEAA 88.9FM, you will often find him ministering in his work as a special education teacher in the Baltimore City Public School System. After serving the people of God for many years and in many capacities at Maximum Life Christian Church, God ordered, then Minister Johnson, to Bishop James D. Nelson and to the Greater Bethlehem Temple. While serving under Bishop Nelson as the Youth Pastor of GBT, Minister Johnson became an ordained Elder in July of 2005.
On April 1, 2007, Elder Johnson heeded the call of the Master and launched Speak To My Heart Ministries. Speak To My Heart Ministries was blessed in 2009 to take possession of our 9,000 square foot complex located at 3903 W. Belvedere Ave. As founding pastor of this ministry, he proudly proclaims that the mission of Speak To My Heart Ministries is to minister to hurting, broken, hardened, and diseased hearts and to save the lost. Elder Johnson is also a proud husband to his high school sweetheart, Evangelist Cynthia Johnson and is a proud father to their son, Nolan and daughter, Zada. Evangelist Cynthia often refers to her husband Pastor Duane Johnson, as “truly a man after God’s own heart.”
