Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews had one hell of a year in 2010 releasing his major label debut, Backatown for the Verve Forecast label. Well he’s back with a even stronger release called “For True” hitting stores on September 13th. It boast a list of special guests to include longtime Andrews mentor Lenny Kravitz – who contributes bass to a song called “Roses” – guitarist Warren Haynes, R&B singer Ledisi, the Rebirth Brass Band, Ivan and Cyril Neville, and members of Galactic. Andrews’ touring band, Orleans Avenue, is also featured.
The new album, like its predecessor, was produced by Galactic saxophonist Ben Ellman. Andrews wrote or co-wrote all 14 tracks. “For True” is our Cool Jazz Pick of the Week! Listen in daily for a new cut off of the CD!
