Remants of Florence causing flash flood watches/warnings across mid-atlantic, northeast

The National Weather Service

The North Carolina Emergency Management Agency says the rainfall from Florence may soon be coming to an end, but the threats from flooding will remain throughout this week.  The National Hurricane Center says the former hurricane is an elongated low pressure area as it continues to produce heavy rain over northern portions of the Mid-Atlantic states into Southern New England.  Flash flood watches are in effect from Maryland and northern Virginia northward into Southern New York then eastward across portions of Southern New England.

Florence is now a post-tropical cyclone.  Even though it's moved on from the Carolinas, flooding there is still a major concern.  The severe weather also spawned several tornadoes in the Richmond, Virginia area.  At least one person died in those storms when a building collapsed.  At least 31 people have died from Florence.

Much of the Baltimore region is under a flash flood watch until 6 p.m. Monday.  The National Weather Service says another round of scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms with heavy rain is expected this afternoon.  Locally heavy rainfall in a short period of time may result in rapid rises on creeks and streams and in urban areas.  The watch is in effect until 6 p.m. for Anne Arundel, Carroll, Howard, Central, Harford, and northern and southern Baltimore.
