Baltimore City State's Attorney announces juvenile carjacking takedown

@MikenzieFrost with @FoxBaltimore

(Baltimore, MD) -- Baltimore officials are marking the takedown of a juvenile carjacking ring operating across seven of the city's nine police districts.

State's Attorney Ivan Bates says his office is pursuing charges against 20 young people ranging in age from 12 to 17.

Bates says the group was allegedly committing crimes in sub-groups of two to eight members at a time, with the majority of the crimes occurring last October and November.

"There can be no question that this group contributed significantly to the uptick in juvenile crime and carjackings that Baltimore experienced in 2023," said State's Attorney Ivan J. Bates. "While arrests were made during this period, the BPD task force worked tirelessly with my office to identify the juveniles involved in these crimes across jurisdictions and connect the dots as to how the group operated. I thank both teams for making today's announcement possible and restoring accountability to our streets."

Charges include armed carjacking, armed robbery and assault and involve more than 50 incidents.
