ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan and top legislative leaders have agreed to a 30-day suspension of the state’s gas tax amid rising prices at the pump.
The agreement was announced Thursday.
It came after officials said Maryland’s revenue projections have jumped an added $1.6 billion for the current and next fiscal years as a result of the huge federal aid to address the coronavirus pandemic.
The revenue is in addition to several billion dollars in a budget surplus.
The suspension of the gas tax, which is nearly 37 cents a gallon, requires legislation and officials said that is expected to be completed next week.
