(Baltimore) —WEAA took home five awards from the Chesapeake Associated Press Broadcasters Association’s (CAPBA) annual contest including Best in Show—Radio for Today With Dr. Kaye’s “An Attack on the Capitol Is an Attack on Democracy”.
The CAPBA is an organization composed of radio and television members of The Associated Press (AP) throughout Maryland, Washington D.C., and Delaware.
The annual contest recognizes the best in the region’s journalism.
WEAA’s Awards:
- Best in Show—Radio: Karsonya Wise Whitehead, Justina Pollard and Andre Melton, WEAA-FM, Baltimore, “An Attack on the Capitol Is an Attack on Democracy” in the Talk Show category
- Outstanding Talk Show: First place, Karsonya Wise Whitehead, Justina Pollard and Andre Melton, WEAA-FM, Baltimore, "An Attack on the Capitol Is an Attack on Democracy”
- Outstanding Editorial or Commentary: Second place, Karsonya Wise Whitehead, Justina Pollard and Andre Melton, WEAA-FM, Baltimore, "Not an Equal Pay Day for All"
- Outstanding Website: First place, Micarie Kemp, WEAA-FM, Baltimore
- Outstanding Public Affairs: Second place, Mike "Nyce" Middleton and Mike Ballard, WEAA-FM, Baltimore, "Baltimore City Mural Series"
Twenty-seven news organizations submitted 357 entries in the contest, which featured news and sports stories from 2021.
The awards were announced on June 4th at the annual Awards Banquet in Ocean City, Maryland.
