Baltimore County's plastic bag ban takes effect today.
Customers need to bring their own bags to stores or pay at least a 5-cent fee for paper or reusable bags.

The ban prohibits single-use plastic bags at many establishments in Baltimore County and imposes a five-cent fee for reusable or paper bags.
The law will exempt some paper bags from the five-cent surcharge, such as those used to package prescriptions at pharmacies.
Anne Arundel County will enact a similar law next year.
