New report tracks youth crime in Maryland

(Baltimore, MD) -- A new report shows crime committed by young people in Maryland has risen over the past two years but remains below pre-pandemic levels.

Results of a study by the state Department of Juvenile Services found youth crime represents a small portion of all crime in Maryland, with adults arrested for 93% of homicides.

The report also found a four-fold increase in the number of young people who were victimized by gun violence over the last decade. About 90% of juveniles who are gun violence victims in Maryland are youth of color, according to the study.
