Cummings decries white supremacy, makes call for civility

Facebook
U.S. Representative, Elijah Cummings, Maryland

Maryland Representative Elijah Cummings says those in the highest levels of government must stop invoking fear and using racist rhetoric.  Speaking at the National Press Club Headliners luncheon in Washington Wednesday, Cummings addressed the recent mass shootings in Ohio and Texas, saying the country must come together and say enough is enough.  He said the country needs to stand up to white supremacists and domestic terrorists who fight against everything America stands for.

The Democrat called on the Senate to vote on a House-passed bill mandating universal background checks for gun buyers.  It was his first major speech since President Trump took aim at him and his hometown of Baltimore, in which Trump called "rat and rodent infested."
