Polls will open today at 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. at 78 locations throughout the state. Follow this linkfor information you'll need to cast your ballots. The primary is Tuesday, June 26. Polls will open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.  Armstead B.C. Jones Jr, Baltimore City Elections Director, talks with WEAA's Julius White about the impressive early voter turnout so far and things you need to know before casting your ballots.

Democratic voters will choose from eight candidates--who will face incumbent Republican governor Larry Hogan.  The crowded Democratic field decreased by one after Valerie Ervin dropped out of the race and threw her support behind Prince George’s County Executive Rushern Baker. Baker is in a statistical dead heat with former NAACP president and CEO Benjamin Jealous.  Maryland voters will also cast votes for the state comptroller, Attorney General, U.S. Senator and Representatives in Congress.  Baltimore city voters will also decide on the State's Attorney race.  Early voting ends on June 21st.

During early voting, Marylanders can register and vote on the same day. To register, a voter must bring a document proving his or her address. Same-day registration is not available on election day.

The overall turnout so far in comparison to the 2014 gubernatorial primary, it’s 56% increase  when more than 54,000 were cast in the first four days of early voting in Maryland. Baltimore’s Faith Leaders are helping to “Turn Out The Vote.”

Churches and houses of worship from all over Baltimore will be participating in the Souls To The Polls effort. Organizers say this is a non-partisan, grassroots initiative is designed to encourage greater civic participation amongst churchgoers in the city. Over 20 Pastors and Ministers have participated in the Souls To The Polls/Get Out The Vote Challenge over the past few days to motivate the community to participate in the early voting, including Rev. Donald Wright , Dr. Harold Carter and Dr. Kevin Slayton. Churches will be sending their members to the Early Voting Center closest to their location.
