Five additional COVID-19 deaths in Maryland, including two Baltimore City women

The Maryland Department of Health Saturday night announced five deaths as a result of COVID-19: a Prince George’s County resident in his 50s; a Charles County resident in his 50s; a Wicomico County resident in her 60s with underlying medical conditions; a Baltimore City resident in her 60s with underlying medical conditions; and a Baltimore City resident in her 80s with underlying medical conditions. 

Mayor Bernard C. “Jack” Young issued a statement Saturday say one woman was in her 60s, and the her 80's. There are now seven deaths accountable to coronavirus in Maryland.

“It is with a heavy heart and profound sadness that I report the first two deaths linked to the COVID-19 virus,” Mayor Young said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with their families during this difficult time. It is vital that we continue to protect each other and vigilantly practice social distancing to safeguard our community.”

Mayor Young is reminding residents that gatherings of more than 10 people are prohibited, and is urging residents to stay home to help limit contact and to slow the transmission of the COVID-19 virus in Baltimore City.

The Maryland Department of Health says there are 992 cases COVID-19 in the state--a 28% increase from Friday's 774 confirmed cases. Allegany and Dorchester counties remain the only two in Maryland with no reported cases.
