Hogan to announce special election for MD 7th Congressional District

Governor Larry Hogan will be announcing a date to choose a replacement for late Congressman Elijah Cummings.   The time limit was Sunday for the governor to let the public know when the special election will take place.  Cummings died last week and was buried Friday.  For the moment, New York Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney is serving as acting Chair of the House Oversight and Reform Committee that Cummings led.

Meanwhile, Cummings' widow is suggesting Trump's attacks on Baltimore hurt the congressman.  During a eulogy at Cummings' funeral Friday, Dr. Maya Rockeymoore Cummings said recent personal attacks against the congressman and Baltimore had been painful to Elijah.  She did not mention Trump by name, but she was apparently referring to Trump's tweets over the summer calling the Baltimore area a "disgusting, rat and rodent infested place in which no human being would want to live."
