Maryland Women Continue in NCAA Tournament
The University of Maryland men’s hoops season may be over, but the Maryland women are still in the middle of their NCAA tournament run as they look to extend a 25-game win streak against 31-0 Princeton. The good news for Maryland is that they will play at home. Tip-off is at 6:30 this evening in College Park.
Hogan, Congressional Leaders Talk FBI Headquarters
Governor Larry Hogan says relocating the new FBI headquarters to Maryland is a priority. Hogan hosted Maryland's Congressional delegation in Annapolis today, and later said that he and lawmakers are united in trying to lure the new FBI headquarters and 11,000 jobs to Maryland. Virginia is also trying to attract the headquarters.
Health Rating Bill Up For Final Vote Tonight
The City Council will take a final vote tonight on a bill that would require Baltimore restaurants to post the results of health inspections in their windows. Health officials say the move will give customers some peace of mind while providing extra incentive for eateries to stay clean. If approved, health notices would start going up in restaurant windows September 1. Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake is expected to sign the measure.
Eight Suspects Charged In New Gang Indictment
Eight more people are under indictment for their alleged involvement in the "Up Da Hill" gang. The U.S. Attorney's Office in Maryland says the suspects are charged with racketeering conspiracy, drug and gun counts related to gang activity in the Cherry Hill section of Baltimore. Prosecutors say gang members participated in a half-dozen murders, shootings, carjackings and robberies.
Lawyer For 'Serial' Subject Files Brief
The subject of the popular Serial podcast is making his case for a new trial. In a briefing filed with the Maryland Court of Special Appeals, Adnan Syed argues that his trial lawyer failed to follow-up on a possible alibi witness, and claims the lawyer didn't pursue a plea deal. The Baltimore Sun reports the Maryland Attorney General's office must respond to the filing by April 30. Oral arguments in the case could be heard in June. Syed is serving life in prison for the murder of his ex-girlfriend and classmate 16 years ago.
Major Construction Resumes on I-95
Baltimore drivers can expect long backups on I-95 this summer heading into the city. Officials say major construction resumes in the next few months between the Fort McHenry Tunnel and the Caton Avenue exit. The work involves traffic pattern changes, detours and ramp closures.
