José Ruíz was a dedicated advocate for Baltimore’s Latino community. In 1980, José began what would become EBLO, Education Based Latino Outreach. He was also Mayor Schaeffer’s first Hispanic liaison, and worked to help the children, youth and adults of this growing segment of Baltimore.
In 1997, José began the program Fiesta Musical at WEAA. It eventually became a Tuesday night staple.
In 2006, José was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and fought bravely until his passing on December 5, 2006. Fiesta Musical continues and so does his legacy. Tune in to hear José’s favorite salsa artists, stories and more — Tuesday night from 8 till 11 PM on Fiesta Musical.
