Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh

Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh delivered here "State of the City" address Monday afternoon. Although not said outright, it appeared the state of Baltimore City is a work in progress or to be continued.

During her speech, Mayor Pugh touted highs and lows of her first year in office from 343 homicides in 2017 to the consent decree to reform policing; the convening of community organizations working with the city to clean up neighborhoods and curb gun violence; from the appointment of a new police chief to the embarrassment of rogue police officers on a now defunct elite gun trace task force (six officers pleaded guilty to corruption charges while two others were convicted at trial).

Pugh also touched on other issues, such as improving the quality of life in Baltimore--from the health of residents to that of the conditions for public schools. Just as she did for her alma mater, Morgan State University, Pugh donned her "cheerleader-in-chief" role for Charm City as she ran down a list of kudos recently written about the city--from Forbes Magazine to Black Enterprise Magazine. If you missed Mayor Pugh's state of the city address you can watch it here.
