Sep 15, 2016

WEAA’s own Your Girl Cheryl and Robert Shahid, of the Baltimore Blend, will be emceeing tonight’s 31st Anniversary of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s (CBCF) Annual Legislative Conference Jazz Concert.

This year’s event continues the CBCF’s tradition of presenting and honoring modern jazz masters.

The concert performances are celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Jazzmobile, a visionary jazz organization serving New York City, with a very special appearance by the Jazzmobile All Stars, featuring trumpeter Jimmy Owens, saxophonist Antonio Hart, and drummer Winard Harper. Plus, the evening will also observe the 90th Birthday of John William Coltrane, one of the most consequential musicians of the 20th century, with a spectacular big band performance by the Washington Renaissance Orchestra, featuring guest saxophonist Joe Ford.

The concert is free and open to the public. It will take place from 7:30-10:30 pm on Thursday, September 15. Location is Ballroom A in the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, 801 Mount Vernon Place, NW.
