The Justice Department announced it has closed its investigation into Emmett Till’s lynching without charging anyone.

Officials reopened the case after a professor wrote in a book that the white woman, who was a witness to events leading up to Till’s lynching, recanted her statements of what she alleged happened.

According to a news release, the FBI stated the woman was questioned about the alleged recantation and denied telling the author her testimony was untrue.

“Even if the government could prove that she recanted her prior state court testimony, the federal government could not prosecute her for perjury for her 1955 testimony,” said the DOJ.

Rev. Michael Bell, Senior Pastor of the Greater St. Stephen First Church-Baptist in Fort Worth, Texas and Dr. Van Gayton, pastor, professor, and conference speaker join Dr. Kaye for the discussion.
