Possible case of monkeypox reported in D.C.

(WEAA)—District of Columbia health officials confirmed the first positive case of Orthopox in a resident who recently traveled to Europe.

Monkeypox, a rare, but potentially serious viral illness is in the Orthopox family of viruses.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is tracking multiple cases of monkeypox that have been reported in several countries, including the United States.

Symptoms of monkeypox include a headache, muscle aches, fever or flu like symptoms followed by a rash and lesions.

Dr. Farin Kamangar, a University Distinguished Professor and Assistant Vice President for Research at Morgan State University joins Dr. Kaye to share his expertise on the rare disease.
