On May 15, The Baltimore City Council unanimously voted to create a Community Reinvestment and Reparations Commission.
"Building upon the momentum generated during the 2022 MD Legislative Session, where HB 837 was passed, Maryland established the statewide Community Repair and Reinvestment Fund. Our collective efforts led to the realization of reparations for communities affected by the unjust 'War on Drugs.' Under this new legislation, the Community Repair and Reinvestment Fund will receive substantial financial support. At least 35 percent of the total revenues generated from the sale of recreational cannabis will be allocated to the fund."
It now awaits the signature of Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott to become official law.
