(WEAA)— Preakness Live, a new culinary, arts and music festival took place Friday before the 147th running of the Preakness Stakes.
Mayor Brandon Scott said the cultural event offered a chance to “showcase the real Baltimore, one that is diverse, vibrant, and resilient”.
The festival took place at Pimlico Race Course in northwest Baltimore and featured performances by Megan Thee Stallion, Lauryn Hill, DJ Quicksilva, Baltimore native Brittney Spencer, DJ D-Nice, Darin Atwater and The Soulful Symphony.
“We actually cultivated an experience like no other in the 147 years of Preakness," said Derrick Chase an activist, and founder of Stand Up Baltimore. "Most Black people in Baltimore never felt welcomed..."
