BalCo Jury: Teen guilty in murder of County Police Officer Amy Caprio

On his 17th birthday, Dawnta Harris was convicted of first degree felony murder in connection with the death of Officer Caprio.

The jury handed down the verdict Wednesday in a courtroom packed with Officer Amy Caprio's family and fellow police.   Harris was tried as an adult for running over Caprio in a stolen Jeep last year while his friends burglarized homes in Perry Hall.  The jury found Harris guilty of felony murder, first-degree burglary and theft involving the vehicle. He faced a total of five counts  in the case and the jury split their verdicts:

  •         felony Murder (Guilty)
  •         first-degree burglary (Guilty on one count, Not Guilty on the second count)
  •         fourth-degree burglary (Not Guilty)
  •         theft (Guilty)

 Harris is scheduled to be sentenced July 23rd. Defense attorneys Warren Brown and J. Wyndal Gordon both said there were no winners in the case but plan to appeal the verdict.
