So called "eye in the sky" is grounded by Baltimore Police Commissioner

(Center) Baltimore Police Commissioner Michael Harrison
Baltimore Police Department

Baltimore Police Commissioner Michael Harrison has no interest in reviving a surveillance plane program in the city.

The commissioner met Monday with the owner of the private company that operates the aircraft.  A police spokesman says the commissioner learned a lot, but has no plans to bring the program back.  The plane was used without the public's knowledge as part of a 2016 test program to track crime. The owner of Persistent Surveillance Systems says the program is being offered to the city at no cost thanks to a pair of Texas philanthropists.
