Lawmakers want to lower the state's sales tax rate from six to five-percent and start taxing many services that are not currently covered.

Democratic House Majority Leader Eric Luedtke of Montgomery County says the measure would bring in two-point-six-billion-dollars by 2025 to pay for the Kirwan plan.  The proposal would add a sales tax to services provided by most businesses including beauty salons, vehicle repair shops, landscaping, accounting and legal firms.  Services involving education, health, social service or nonprofits would not be taxed.
