D.C. Approves Purchases Of Medical Marijuana

(Washington, DC) -- The D.C. Council has given the green light to the purchasing of medical marijuana without a doctor's approval.

The legislation allows people 21 years of age and older to purchase marijuana for medical purposes.

Before the District Council approved the measure, those seeking medical marijuana were required to submit an application to the Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration, which also required a person to provide a doctor's note prescribing the marijuana.

The measure is also expected to crack down on those so-called gifting shops that provide pot as a gift with purchase.
