CD of the Month

With so many new jazz CDs being released every week, you can trust Program and Music Director Marcellus Shepard to select the best new offerings. WEAA’s CD of the Month is carefully selected from hundreds of albums, and our hosts play selected tracks from the release throughout that month’s jazz programming. In addition, listeners have several opportunities throughout the month to win the CD and add it to their own collections.

Jonathan Butler’s Living My Dream

Two-time Grammy nominee, South African singer, songwriter and guitarist Jonathan Butler is moving in a new rhythm of life these days. He’s been taking up a new pastime, gardening, at his suburban Los Angeles home where he’s been growing tomatoes, bell peppers, rosemary, sage, and thyme. He says this gives him “a new sense of heaven,” and it’s part of a mindset he has cultivated, dubbing it “the season of me.” This new mindset has been brought to life musically in his new CD, Living My Dream, which can be summed up as cornucopia of organic grooves lined with the sounds of contemporary jazz sprinkled with a dose R&B vocals.

Dream is composed entirely of original tunes that Jonathan produced and tracked live in the House of Blues studio in Los Angeles. You can look forward to 11 tracks that feature an all-star cast including George Duke, Marcus Miller, and Elan Trotman.
