The Community Cares Partner for May is McVet, The Maryland Center for Veterans Education & Training, Inc. McVet is a program designed to help Homeless Veterans get back with their families and into the Community as productive citizens.
The magnitude of problems that are experienced by homeless veterans are many and housing and support services include: A day-drop-in facility, emergency housing, transitional housing and single room occupancy. McVet also provides case management, substance abuse and mental health counseling. At McVet they conduct addiction recovery classes daily and veterans receive individual counseling, assistance with post-traumatic stress disorder, substance abuse and family problems. There is also an education, training and employment programs.
On Sunday May 29 is McVet’s 21st Annual 5k/10K Races. The event will start at War Memorial Plaza. Pre-Race Registration is 7:30am for the 5K and 8:30 am for the 10K.
