(WEAA) —James Hamlin, owner of The Avenue Bakery is working to keep music, arts and Black culture alive on Pennsylvania Avenue, an area once known as the entertainment center for Baltimore.
Chef Hamlin and The Royal Theater & Community Heritage Center have been hosting summer jazz concert series in the neighborhood for more than seven years.
However, the concerts were postponed for over a year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Live Music is Back
For the second time this summer, on Saturday, September 4, music lovers will once again be able to enjoy free entertainment, culture and history in the courtyard at The Avenue.
“The idea is to give folks a flavor of what The Avenue used to be like back in the day when it was the entertainment center for Baltimore during the 30’s, 40’s, 50’s and early 60’s.”- James Hamlin
