A Towson college prep school for boys is closed today due to threatening messages posted on social media.  Administrators at Loyola Blakefield decided to err on the side of caution and cancel classes after consulting with police.

Detectives don't believe the threat was credible, but they are continuing their investigation.  No word yet on the specific content of the messages.

In a released statement, Loyola Blakefield spokesman Bob Robinson said The Loyola Blakefield Administrative team made the decision to close school on Monday, to allow local law enforcement to assess the source and validity of threatening posts on social media. "The closing provides room for the investigation to occur, while ensuring the safety of our school community, said Robinson. "At this time, we are working in conjunction with Baltimore County Police as they take the lead on evaluating the threat.

Robinson went on to say that in order to avoid hindering their investigation, no additional details are available at this time.  "As in all cases, the safety of the members of our community remains the number one priority, said Robinson. There was no word when classes would resume.

Monday's closure was the second time the school has closed due to threats . It was in December someone wrote a racially charged comment on a bathroom stall.

*** this story has been updated to reflect the threats were not racially motivated as reported earlier this week***
