Maryland Senate to add $520M to Hogan's relief measure

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) The Maryland Senate plans to add $520 million to Gov. Larry Hogan's proposal to help the state recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Leading Democrats who control the Senate released details of their plan Wednesday.

They are keeping Hogan's proposals intact. Senators plan to bring the amended bill to the floor as soon as next week as lawmakers move quickly to approve the aid.

A big focus of the Senate proposal is on education and business assistance.

Education help represents about $116 million of the Senate's plan.

That includes $50 million to add eight weeks of summer school or tutoring for 25,000 students.
