COVID-19 Milestones: Maryland’s positivity rate drops below 1%, half of Marylanders fully vaccinated

BALTIMORE, MD (WEAA) — Maryland has reached two major milestones in the battle against the coronavirus. 

 

For the first time, health officials say the state’s 7-day positivity rate has dropped below 1% – down 84% since mid-April.

 

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is also announcing half of Marylanders are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19. 

 

Health officials say, Maryland has reached this milestone faster than 42 other states. 

 

 

Virus-related hospitalizations have also dropped to its lowest level since March 29, 2020.

 

Currently, 245 patients are hospitalized due to COVID-19 complications. A decrease of 32 patients since Tuesday morning.

According to the Maryland Department of Health, 126 new coronavirus cases have been added within 24 hours along with four virus-related deaths.
