Homicide Rate in Baltimore Climbs as City Council Members, Police Clash Over Plan to Battle Violent Crime

(Baltimore, MD) -- While Baltimore Police leaders defend their plan to battle violent crime, some city council members say the plan is not working because violent crime numbers continue to rise.

At a public safety hearing yesterday afternoon, council member Eric Costello said the level of violence in the city is not sustainable.

Police Commissioner Michael Harrison told council members they're constantly evaluating the crime plan.

The number of murders in the city so far this year stands at 184 compared with 173 at this time last year.

Police plan to announce how they intend to redraw districts this year at a news conference today.
