(Baltimore, MD) -- The Baltimore City Council meets today to discuss the steps needed to give control of the BPD to city leadership.
The state currently has jurisdiction over the city's police department and has regulated how it operates since 1860.
In November, Baltimore voters approved giving the city the reins, but there are still several more steps that need to be navigated before that becomes official.
Baltimore is one of only two localities in the country that doesn't control its police force.
