(Baltimore, MD) -- Baltimore Police are now allowed to issue citations for low-level offenses like dirt bike riding, disorderly conduct, loitering, aggressive panhandling and other quality of life crimes.
It comes after City State's Attorney Ivan Bates announced a citation docket earlier this month with a goal of bringing accountability and improved safety to Baltimore.
Citations may be issued to people 18 and older and defendants will be offered community service and a referral for wrap-around resources for the first two offenses.
A third offense would lead to prosecution.
Former City State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby stopped prosecuting low-level, non-violent offenses in 2021, saying there was no public safety value.
