Students across Maryland return to school amid shortages

(Baltimore, MD) -- Students across Maryland are heading back to classes today on the first day of the fall semester.

There are some shortages in staff and bus drivers, though not as severe as last year.

Baltimore City schools have invested in high-level weapons detection systems and all city schools will be equipped with exterior locking systems.

Salaries of school resource officers in city schools have also been increased.

In Baltimore County, school officials have also spent money on weapons detection systems that will alert them if any firearms are seen on campus.

And in Anne Arundel County, drivers will be staffed at ten percent above capacity to help compensate when drivers call in sick.
