Baltimore Fire Union Criticizes Memo on New Firefighting Guidelines

(Baltimore, MD) -- Baltimore Fire union officials say new guidelines handed down this week on fighting fires has put added stress on firefighters.

Among other things, the policies mandate that fires in buildings that are confirmed as vacant can only be extinguished from the outside, unless there is an actual sighting of a person who is trapped inside.

Union officials say it's not always possible to know if someone is inside unless a firefighter enters a building.

They say they're scheduled to meet with department officials next week to discuss the new guidelines.
