MSDE sets new income guidelines for free and reduced-price school meals

(Baltimore, MD) -- The Maryland State Department of Education has announced updates to the Income Eligibility Guidelines for free and reduced-price school meals.

“Access to healthy, nutritious meals during the school day is an essential part of being ready to learn,” said Dr. Carey M. Wright, State Superintendent of Schools. “We encourage all families to look for information about the free and reduced-price meal application process at the beginning of the school year from their child’s school.”

As an example, a child from a family of four qualifies for free school meals if the annual household income is below $40,560.

If the income is between that number and $57,720, the student is eligible for reduced-price meals.

The new guidelines will be in effect through June 30 of next year.
