(WEAA)— As Morgan State University gears up for its much-anticipated Homecoming festivities, September 29-October 6, the MSU Police Department has announced a robust security plan aimed at ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment for all attendees.
"Homecoming is a time for celebration, reunion, and reflection on all we have achieved together. However, as we look forward to welcoming alumni, friends and visitors to our campus, we must also prioritize the safety and security of our entire community," said Lance Hatcher, Chief of Police.
To maintain a secure atmosphere, MSUPD will have 225 sworn police officers and security personnel stationed throughout the campus.
The security plan also includes advanced technology to increase safety measures:
- Aerial Drones: Drones will provide aerial surveillance over key areas of the campus.
- Expanded Camera System: The campus now features over 1,400 security cameras, offering real-time monitoring across more than 3,100 camera views.
- License Plate Readers: These will assist in managing vehicle traffic and maintaining safety on and near campus.
- AI Weapon Detection: This will detect any brandished weapons on campus
- Mobile Security Cameras: LVT Mobile Security Camera towers will be strategically placed for real-time monitoring.
The university will also increase signage across the campus to to indicate prohibition of weapons and marijuana use, the implementation of clear bag protocols for stadium entry, and the enforcement of surveillance measures.
On Homecoming Day, October 5, all campus buildings will close by 3 p.m., and the entire campus will close at 7 p.m.
MSUPD will also manage traffic and crowd control throughout Homecoming Week.
Attendees are urged to respect campus policies and cooperate with officers. Any criminal activities or actions that jeopardize safety will be met with strict consequences, including prosecution.
