(Baltimore, MD) -- Maryland Attorney General Anthony Brown has joined a coalition of attorneys general and governors in filing a lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for terminating nearly $11 billion in public health grants.
Brown says the grants ended with no warning or legally valid explanation, causing chaos for state health agencies that rely on the funds for urgent public health needs.

The state of Maryland stands to lose around $200 million if the funding is not restored.
The HHS terminated the grants last month, claiming the funding was no longer needed because the pandemic had ended.
The coalition says the cuts are unlawful since the funds are not tied to the end of COVID-19 and they want a temporary restraining order to invalidate the terminations.
