(Baltimore, MD) -- Baltimore's deputy mayor for public safety and former acting police commissioner Anthony Barksdale has died at the age of 53.
Mayor Brandon Scott says he is heartbroken by Barksdale's passing.
The mayor says in a statement that Tony Barksdale was the epitome of what it means to be a public servant - but more importantly, he was a standard bearer of what it means to be a good man.
Mayor Scott says Barksdale served the city for three-plus decades to make it safer for all Baltimoreans and his heart goes out to the family and everyone who had the pleasure of working with him.
