Baltimore City begins dedicated alley clearing to remove snow, ice

(Baltimore, MD) -- Baltimore City DPW crews have begun a dedicated alley clearing operation to remove the snow and ice remaining after last month's snowstorm.

The DPW says a private contractor is deploying bobcats and front-end loaders exclusively for clearing the alleys and operations will run daily from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. until the alleys are sufficiently cleared.

Following clearing, alleys will be treated with salt to reduce the risk of refreezing. The city says since trash and recycling share the same collection points the alleys that are cleared for trash removal will remain accessible for recycling.
