New charges against man cleared in 2010 murder of Phylicia Barnes

(Towson, MD) -- A man who was acquitted in the murder of a North Carolina teenager in Maryland is facing new charges in Baltimore County.

According to the Baltimore Banner, Michael Maurice Johnson is accused of strangling and raping a 19-year-old woman.

The 40-year-old Johnson is being held without bond following his arrest on Monday for assault and rape.

Johnson was cleared of the 2010 murder of Phylicia Barnes after the state failed to convict him in three trials.

The 16-year-old Barnes went missing while visiting family in Baltimore and her body was found months later in the Susquehanna River.
