(Ocean City, MD) -- Officials have placed restrictions on water access at Ocean City and nearby beaches on Delmarva Peninsula after they found significant amounts of medical waste in the water.
The waste included hypodermic needles.
Ocean City emergency officials described the situation in Maryland's busiest resort town as serious and urged beachgoers to wear shoes while walking the beach and to avoid the beach entirely.
State officials are issuing similar warnings for Fenwick Island in Delaware and Assateague State Park.
