BALTIMORE, MD (WEAA) — Coronavirus cases are rapidly rising across Maryland.
On Thursday, state health officials reported 1,047 new cases since Wednesday morning.
Data shows, 34 more patients have been hospitalized in the last 24 hours due to complications from the coronavirus.
Three more virus-related deaths have been reported.
Maryland’s positivity rate has increased to 4.39%.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 78.8% of Maryland adults have received at least one dose of the COVID vaccine.
“The Delta variant is here, and it poses a serious threat to our unvaccinated residents,” said Health Commissioner Dr. Letitia Dzirasa. “I’m speaking to you not just as the Health Commissioner but as a mother of a child that is too young to be vaccinated. We have the ability to slow the spread COVID-19 and the actions we all take collectively will protect the most vulnerable among us.”

On Wednesday, the CDC announced people who are pregnant are encouraged to get the vaccine following data underscoring its safety and effectiveness throughout pregnancy.
Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott reinstated the indoor mask mandate due to the rise in COVID cases.
As of Monday, August 9, all Baltimore City residents are required to wear face coverings when indoors, regardless of vaccination status.
