More than two dozen Maryland corrections officers are being indicted for using excessive force and other charges at several facilities. Baltimore City State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby announced Tuesday 25 officers were indicted on more than 230 counts.
The officers are accused of threatening and assaulting detainees, as well as tampering with evidence and falsifying documents. Charges also include conspiracy to participate in a criminal gang. The investigation began in 2018 after reports of unnecessary force against a detainee in a single case, and it quickly expanded including incidents going back as far as 2016.
Governor Larry Hogan is reacting to the indictments. Hogan says his administration has been working diligently to root out wrongdoing and corruption no matter where it's taking place and making clear there is no tolerance whatsoever for corruption in the state prison system or anywhere else in state government.
