Social worker and transplant recipient Tisha Guthrie discusses chronic kidney disease on the Morgan News Hour, highlighting its widespread impact and the urgent need for awareness.

Guthrie notes that more than 35 million Americans have chronic kidney disease, with 90% undiagnosed. In Maryland, about 2,500 people are waiting for kidney transplants.

African Americans are four times more likely, and Latinx individuals twice as likely, to develop the disease.

The National Kidney Foundation provides education, financial assistance and support for dialysis patients.

Guthrie stresses the importance of community involvement and awareness, leading the Zumba warm-up at the 23rd annual Maryland Kidney Walk on Oct. 19.

She encourages donations and participation to help raise awareness and support those affected by chronic kidney disease.
