Baltimore City Council passes resolution opposing BGE rate hikes; Testimony resumes in Baltimore squeegee murder trial

The Baltimore City Council has passed a resolution opposing Baltimore Gas and Electric's proposal to raise rates. Councilman Zeke Cohen introduced the resolution Monday saying BGE wants to raise gas distribution rates by 61% and electric distribution rates by 31% over a three-year period. BGE says the councilman's numbers are not accurate and the proposal calls for a five% rate increase for three years. The Council is sending the resolution to the Public Service Commission which will consider BGE's plan next month.

Testimony resumes this morning in the trial of a teenaged squeegee worker charged with killing a man near Baltimore's Inner Harbor last summer. On Tuesday prosecutors and defense attorneys told the jury very different versions of what took place on the day Timothy Reynolds was shot at Light and Conway streets. The defense says Reynolds had issues with squeegee workers and took the law into his own hands when he came at them with a baseball bat. The prosecution says Reynolds was shot five times and the 16-year-old defendant should be held accountable. The jury also heard from several witnesses and they were shown images of key evidence in the case. One juror was dismissed before opening statements because he researched the case online. He was replaced by an alternate juror.
