(WEAA) —Baltimore area officials are preparing for severe storms expected to move through the region today, with multiple agencies activating emergency measures and urging residents to stay alert.
Baltimore City's Office of Emergency Management will activate its Emergency Operations Center at 1 p.m. to coordinate a cross-agency response to forecast conditions that could bring severe thunderstorms and possible tornado activity. Residents are encouraged to sign up for BMORE Alert to receive emergency notifications on their mobile devices.
The Maryland Transportation Authority is warning drivers that today's storms may produce heavy rain, dangerous lightning and powerful winds. Officials say drivers should watch for standing water, downed trees and debris on roadways, and should be prepared for wind warnings and possible temporary traffic holds at MDTA bridges.
Baltimore Gas and Electric says it is ready to respond to any storm-related outages. Customers who lose power or spot downed wires can report them through the BGE mobile app or at bge.com/outage.
Baltimore County Police say they will be conducting targeted DUI enforcement efforts today as residents celebrate St. Patrick's Day. Officials are urging everyone to have a safe plan before heading out.
Severe storms are expected to impact #BaltCo tomorrow afternoon/evening, bringing about the possibility of tornados. Please monitor weather conditions, and know where to properly shelter.
