(WEAA)—A 17-year-old boy was killed early Sunday morning after being struck by a vehicle while changing a tire on Interstate 695 in Baltimore County.
Maryland State Police responded around 1:30 a.m. Aug. 2 to the outer loop of I-695 east of southbound I-83 after reports of a pedestrian-involved crash. According to investigators, a Lexus IS had become inoperable in the far-right lane. The 17-year-old passenger was outside the vehicle attempting to change the tire when a Honda Accord struck the rear driver's side of the Lexus and then struck the pedestrian. Police say the Lexus had its hazard lights activated at the time of the crash.
The teen, who police say is from Harford County, was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver of the Lexus, identified as Kyeahle Lamerah Armstead, 18, of Baltimore, was transported to a local hospital for treatment. No other injuries were reported. The driver of the Honda remained on the scene.
Maryland State Police remind motorists that if a vehicle becomes inoperable on a roadway, call 911 immediately for assistance rather than exiting the vehicle in a travel lane.
