Baltimore City honors legendary actor André De Shields

(Baltimore, MD) -- Baltimore City is honoring an award-winning Broadway actor.

Mayor Brandon Scott joined other city and state officials in the renaming of the 1800 block of North Division Street in honor of André De Shields.

He grew up in Baltimore and graduated from Baltimore City College high school.

“I hope that today’s street naming ceremony serves as reminder for every young black boy in Baltimore to never forget their roots and to always remember that despite what naysayers say, your success has no limits,” said Mayor Scott.

The 77-year-old De Shields has won numerous accolades, including Tony, Grammy and Emmy awards.
